Erbium Doped Fiber Amplifiers
Synchronous analog EDFA amplifiers complement the Synchronous External Modulation Transmitters in architectures requiring amplification or repeat of the 1550 nm optical signal. The combination of the EDFA with the transmitter can replace up to 15 standard laser transmitters without compromise in quality. Synchronous EDFA amplifiers are also available with a wide range of optical output power levels to fulfill a variety of network applications. In serving large networks, the use of the EDFA eliminates the need to convert the optical signal to RF and then back to light. This allows design of complete optical networks from the headend to the final node.
Synchronous digital EDFA amplifiers complement a wide range of high performance digital transmitters in architectures requiring amplification or repeat of the 1550 nm optical signal, especially in digital return path networks. The digital EDFA has excellent band flatness and very low noise, allowing the unit to provide very effective amplification in large digital or DWDM networks with spacing of 50 or 100 GHz.
Synchronous EDFA amplifiers are manufactured in a variety of packaging. The Sirius EDFA is designed for integration in the Constellation Series of equipment. The EDFA-1550 is designed for stand alone rack mounting, The EDFA-1550-SM is a full performance, strand mount amplifier. Sirius and the EDFA-1550 offer operation with standard AC or –48 VDC. The EDFA-1550-SM operates on standard 60 or 90 volt cable powering.
